It is of great importance to prevent plastic pollution in order to leave a clean and livable world for the future and to keep the oceans and seas clean. However, in the report published by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2016, it is estimated that plastic pollution will increase without slowing down. However, considering the projected growth in consumption, the prediction that the seas will contain more plastic (by weight) than fish by 2050 shows that we are faced with a serious situation. In the studies carried out to date, we see that the pollution in any one of the water, air and soil, which connects all living things in the ecosystem, quickly moves to the others and affects the whole system.

34 companies have announced their commitments to fight plastic pollution. The Business World Plastics Initiative (IPG), implemented with the cooperation of Global Compact Turkey, SKD Turkey and TUSIAD, was established at the end of 2019 in order to mobilize the business world for the joint solution of the plastic issue. Declaring that they will announce their plastic commitments for 2021 within the scope of IPG, the companies completed the commitment process thanks to events, trainings and good practice sharing meetings for more than a year and shared their plastic commitments with the public in June. Accordingly, 34 companies operating in the fields of packaged consumer goods, retail and service sector, durable consumer goods and raw material production, which have made a commitment to contribute to the solution of the plastic problem, have determined their concrete targets for 2023 by measuring their plastic footprints on the IPGTool database. .

Companies that share their plastic commitments under the roof of IPG; It will annually publish a progress report on its commitments until 2023, contribute to global and national advocacy and awareness efforts, and have the opportunity to benefit from the networks that IPG is connected to in order to disseminate good practices.
